Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s ₦58.18 trillion 2026 budget, saying it will worsen the hardship faced by citizens instead of easing it.

The reaction came on Friday in Abuja, shortly after the President presented the budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly, outlining plans for economic stability, security spending, and reforms.

The PDP, led by its Tanimu Turaki faction, said the budget figures do not reflect the daily reality of Nigerians who are struggling with hunger, high prices, and insecurity across the country.
According to the party, claims of economic recovery are hard to accept when a large number of Nigerians still live below the extreme poverty line, despite reported growth in the economy.

The party called for better use of public funds, clear budget execution, and stronger accountability, warning that without real changes, the 2026 budget could leave many Nigerians worse off than before.
