Senator Orji Uzor Kalu says President Bola Tinubu faces no real threat ahead of the 2027 presidential election, dismissing claims that the opposition can defeat him at the polls.

The Abia North lawmaker spoke in reaction to comments by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who had argued that Tinubu would lose re-election due to hardship and disputed the outcome of the 2023 vote.

Kalu said the opposition lacks the structure, unity, and drive needed to mount a serious challenge, adding that the coming election is more about Tinubu’s performance than any rival candidate.

He explained that the current economic strain is tied to efforts to rebuild a system he said never truly existed before, noting that Tinubu is pushing reforms aimed at long-term stability rather than short-term relief.
On corruption, Kalu said the problem cuts across public and private sectors, backing calls for full investigation into allegations raised by Aliko Dangote against the head of the petroleum regulatory authority, insisting that no official should be shielded.
He also linked insecurity to economic breakdown at the grassroots, urged respect for the judiciary despite past personal grievances, and called for tighter control of foreign currency use within Nigeria’s local economy.
