Amakaeze Family Backs Obi Cubana, Rejects N2bn Property Dispute Claims

The family of Rev. Chidiebere Amakaeze has denied allegations linking nightclub entrepreneur Obi Cubana to a property dispute said to be worth N2 billion.

The siblings said their brother acted alone and that Cubana has no outstanding debt or obligation to the family.

The dispute resurfaced after a viral video in which Rev. Amakaeze accused Cubana of owing the family and attempting to take over their Wuse 2 property. His younger brother, Nwem Amakaeze, responded on behalf of the family, insisting that Cubana has always met all financial responsibilities tied to the property and had even supported them for years.

The family said Rev. Amakaeze’s actions do not represent them, pointing to a 2018 affidavit in which he reportedly presented himself as the only surviving next of kin to secure a sole letter of administration. They described the move as a betrayal that misled the court and sidelined the other siblings.

They also accused him of filing false petitions, causing internal conflict, and using social media to attack Cubana, while the businessman has insisted that any settlement must include all surviving siblings. According to the family, Cubana has maintained close ties with them and has continued to uphold his obligations despite the ongoing feud.

Their elder sister, Adaolisa Amakaeze, also defended Cubana, saying he had cared for the family and paid rent as caretaker of the disputed property. She maintained that he is not owing and should not be forced out of the premises.

The controversy follows a December 9 eviction carried out by court sheriffs at the property, now handed over to businessman Collins Onwuzulike. Rev. Amakaeze had claimed to have sold the property for N2 billion, a claim his siblings say is misleading and does not reflect the family’s true position.
