Kwankwaso Raises Concern Over Rising Militia Threat

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has raised concern over the growing presence of unregulated militias across the country, warning that the Federal Government is losing control of a deepening security crisis.

He issued the warning on Monday through a statement on his verified Facebook page.

He drew attention to the spread of armed groups in several regions, saying the country is moving toward a dangerous breakdown in law and order. He linked the situation to the free movement of weapons and the actions of political actors who take advantage of the insecurity for their own interests.

He pointed to the rise of state-backed vigilante groups, saying many of them operate without proper checks. He noted that these outfits have created space for private militias to grow, leaving communities more vulnerable and the security landscape more chaotic.

He also accused some individuals of forming their own armed networks, adding that this trend is pushing tensions even higher. He warned that such actions weaken national peace and make the crisis harder to contain.

Speaking from his experience as a former Defence Minister and governor, he said he feels responsible to speak about the direction the country is heading. He stated that the Federal Government holds the main duty to protect citizens but appears overwhelmed by the scale of violence spreading nationwide.

He condemned the rise in ethnic profiling and called for urgent steps to stop the situation from worsening. He ended by congratulating General Christopher Musa on his new role as Minister of Defence, expressing confidence that he has the experience to help restore stability if given strong political support.
