Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has called on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to join the All Progressives Congress and work more closely with the Federal Government ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Goronyo made the call on Monday during the flag-off ceremony for the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ijebu Road in Ogun State. President Bola Tinubu was represented at the event by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Makinde was absent from the ceremony as the Federal Government and other officials gathered to mark the beginning of the road project, which is expected to improve transportation between Oyo and Ogun states.
The minister used the occasion to invite Makinde to move from his current political platform to the APC, arguing that such a move would allow Oyo State to work more closely with the Federal Government.
Goronyo said joining the ruling party would provide an opportunity for the state to be better connected to the Tinubu administration and its development programme.
He also praised Abiodun for his role in the development of Ogun State and the wider South-West, while commending the Federal Government for pushing ahead with major infrastructure projects in the region.
The minister said the administration was advancing its development plans through road and other infrastructure projects across the country.
He then directed his appeal to Makinde, asking the Oyo governor to consider joining the APC and aligning the state with the Federal Government ahead of the next election.

The project is also expected to strengthen transportation links within the South-West and improve access along the busy route.
Minister of Works Dave Umahi attended the event alongside other government officials and traditional leaders.
The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, was among the dignitaries present, while Ogun State Deputy Governor Noimat Salako also attended the ceremony.
The APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Sharafdeen Abiodun Ali, was also listed among those present.
Goronyo’s call places additional political attention on Makinde as parties and politicians intensify preparations for the 2027 elections. The Oyo governor’s response to the invitation is expected to be watched closely as political negotiations and alliances continue to take shape across the country.
