The Indigenous People of Biafra has thanked Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto for visiting its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

The group also praised Hon. Emeka Aguocha and other Igbo residents in Sokoto who joined the visit.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB described Kanu as a prisoner of conscience and said the visit brought hope to millions of supporters. The group accused the government of subjecting Kanu to abduction, extraordinary rendition, prolonged detention, and an unfair trial.

IPOB said the transfer of Kanu to Sokoto despite the insecurity in the region was provocative, but added that the group would continue to push for justice through non-violent means. It insisted that Kanu committed no offence under local or international law and maintained that pressure from the presidency influenced the court judgment against him.
The statement said Kanu remains highly respected among Igbo people and well-meaning Nigerians, warning that the government must ensure his safety while in custody. IPOB cautioned that any harm to him would have unpredictable consequences, given the level of support he commands.
The group restated its commitment to a peaceful struggle and urged the Nigerian government to protect Kanu as it awaits a UN-supervised referendum for Biafrans to decide their future.
