Benue Voter Registration To Pause December 10

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Benue State has set December 10 as the date when the first phase of the voter registration exercise will come to a close.

The process started in late August and has been running across all local government areas in the state.

The commission explained that the suspension is needed to prepare for the mandatory public review of the preliminary voter register. This review will run from December 15 to 21 at INEC offices in all LGAs and at the state headquarters.

Residents who registered, transferred their details, or made corrections during the first phase will be able to check their information during this period. They will also be allowed to report errors or raise objections so that the register can be cleaned up before the next stage begins.

INEC urged political parties, civil society groups, traditional institutions, and community organisers to help inform voters about the review window. The commission said the support of these groups will help ensure that the register is accurate and ready for future elections.

The electoral body also used the statement to remind the public of the next steps in the process. It confirmed that the second phase of voter registration will begin on January 5, 2026.

INEC assured residents that it remains committed to producing a transparent and reliable voter register ahead of upcoming electoral activities in the state.
