Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has pushed back at Senator Adams Oshiomhole after the former APC chairman accused him of failing to manage the internal crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party.

Oshiomhole made the claim during a television interview on Monday, saying Atiku’s inability to stabilise the PDP showed he lacked the capacity to lead Nigeria. His comments came shortly after Atiku formally registered with the African Democratic Congress.

Atiku’s camp responded through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, who dismissed Oshiomhole’s remarks as an attempt to shift attention from what he described as the failures of the APC. He argued that Atiku served as Vice President, not as PDP chairman, and had no sole authority over the party’s internal affairs.

Shaibu said the PDP operated as a democratic institution, unlike the APC, which he described as being tightly controlled by a small circle of power brokers. He said Oshiomhole should look within his own party before questioning anyone’s leadership record.
He defended Atiku’s tenure as Vice President, noting his role in economic reforms, investment growth, and private-sector strengthening under the Obasanjo administration. According to him, Atiku’s policy ideas still stand out even though he has never been president.
Shaibu also questioned the APC’s record in government, saying the party had failed to improve the country after years in power. He argued that Oshiomhole had no platform to judge leadership when the ruling party had left Nigeria in a worse condition.
He added that Atiku represents experience and clear vision, while Oshiomhole brings only loud rhetoric tied to a party that disappointed Nigerians.
