Obi pointed to recent violence across the country, including the killing of a senior military officer and the kidnapping of 25 people. He said another attack in Kwara State added to the growing sense that Nigeria was drifting into danger.

He argued that instead of building unity during a tense period, the nation was being distracted by conflicts inside major opposition parties. He claimed these disputes were being encouraged by those in power to weaken political rivals rather than strengthen democratic stability.

Obi recalled an earlier era under the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, saying the administration once directed the electoral umpire to protect all political parties, not just the ruling one. He described that moment as an example of leadership that understood the need for strong institutions.

He said the current situation was the opposite, accusing the government of working to break up the PDP, Labour Party, SDP and others. He warned that democracies thrive when opposition parties are allowed to function freely, elections reflect the people’s choices and leaders govern with inclusion.

Obi ended his statement with his usual call for hope, insisting that a better Nigeria is still within reach.
