Nigeria Team Meets US Officials Over Attacks On Christians

A high level Nigerian delegation has travelled to the United States to discuss fresh claims of targeted violence against Christians and the wider security crisis across the country.

The visit brought together key government, defence, and diplomatic officials led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

The meeting took place in Washington, where the Nigerian team engaged US Congressman Riley Moore and other American officials. The talks focused on rising attacks linked to Boko Haram, ISWAP, and armed groups operating in several regions. The US side also raised concerns about the safety of Christian communities who continue to face deadly assaults.

The Nigerian delegation included the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Ojukwu, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, and Chief of Defence Intelligence Lt Gen EAP Undiendeye. Senior advisers and embassy officials were also part of the team, reflecting the weight of the discussions.

The engagement centred on how both countries can work together to curb extremist activities, improve intelligence sharing, and protect civilians caught in violent attacks. The Nigerian officials outlined the government’s current operations and the challenges faced in tackling armed groups across large areas.

Congressman Moore stated that the United States expects real progress on security reforms, especially around the protection of vulnerable groups. He maintained that the US government is ready to deepen cooperation if Nigeria takes visible steps that show commitment to ending the cycle of violence.

Both sides agreed to continue the dialogue, with the US offering support to help Nigeria disrupt terrorist networks and strengthen its internal security response. The delegation is expected to return to brief the presidency on the next line of action.
