Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued 74 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from a possible abduction by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night after the corps members’ buses broke down in an area notorious for terrorist attacks. Military sources said soldiers monitoring CCTV feeds detected suspicious activity involving three buses around 9:05 p.m. and immediately dispatched a patrol team to the location.

Upon arrival, the troops found 74 corps members — 36 men and 38 women — stranded by the roadside after their vehicles developed mechanical faults. The soldiers quickly evacuated them to safety, preventing what could have been a large-scale kidnapping.

Investigations revealed that the group had earlier travelled from Maiduguri to Damaturu under military escort provided by the 7 Division Garrison. However, they reportedly continued to Hawul Local Government Area without notifying Sector 2 Headquarters or requesting additional security.
The corps members were said to be on an evangelical outreach when the breakdown occurred. They are now being sheltered at the Buratai military base as arrangements are made for their onward journey.
This rescue operation comes just days after the same military formation freed 86 kidnapped victims and apprehended 29 suspected Boko Haram collaborators in nearby areas.
