Police Warn Politicians As Anambra Holds Guber Election Tomorrow

Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Force Intelligence, Benjamin Okolo, has warned political actors against acts capable of disrupting public peace.

Okolo, who also oversees election operations in the state, said all security measures ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had been fully implemented. Speaking at the state police headquarters in Awka, he assured residents that the police and other security agencies were fully prepared to deliver a peaceful and credible election.

He said the IGP had directed massive deployment of personnel, logistics, and intelligence resources across the 21 local government areas to secure voters, election materials, and officials throughout the process. Okolo added that police units had been strategically positioned to respond swiftly to any unrest or emergency that may arise during the polls.

The DIG noted that security agencies had been engaging political stakeholders in peace meetings and ensuring all candidates signed a peace accord. He said these efforts were aimed at promoting tolerance and discouraging violence before, during, and after the election.

He urged voters to come out and exercise their civic rights without fear, assuring that security operatives had been properly briefed to remain professional and impartial while performing their duties.

In a related development, the Commissioner of Police, Air Wing, Martins Nwogo, said the airspace across Anambra had been fully secured. He noted that aerial surveillance would continue throughout the election to detect and deter any form of disturbance.

Both officers reaffirmed that no effort would be spared in ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful election across the state.
