With less than two days to the Anambra State governorship election, Afam Ogene, who leads the Labour Party caucus in the House of Representatives, has accused the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and its candidate, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, of intimidating voters.

Ogene, who represents Ogbaru Federal Constituency, raised the alarm in a statement issued in Awka on Thursday, saying that residents were being coerced to vote for the ruling party or risk being denied access to state projects and benefits. He described the alleged threats as an assault on democracy, stressing that citizens must be allowed to make free and independent choices at the polls.

Ogene also criticised the state government for neglecting Ogbaru, a key oil-producing area, noting that its only major road remains in terrible condition. The poor infrastructure, he said, has worsened economic hardship, making it difficult for farmers and traders to move goods and access markets.
He maintained that no citizen should be forced to support any political party in exchange for basic government services, warning that such tactics undermine public trust in the electoral process. His statement comes amid growing tension and heightened political activity across Anambra as parties make final pushes ahead of the crucial governorship contest.
