The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has promised to introduce a monthly minimum wage of N500,000 for Nigerian workers if elected president in the 2027 general election.

Sowore made the pledge while outlining his party’s plans for the 2027 election in an interview with The Independent.

He also promised that an AAC-led government would provide 24-hour electricity across the country and make education free and accessible at all levels.
The former presidential candidate said the proposed minimum wage would be aimed at improving the living conditions of workers, arguing that Nigerians should not continue to receive low wages while political office holders earn large amounts of money.
Sowore also included housing in his proposed agenda, promising to construct one million public mixed-income homes across the country.

He said his administration would also reform tenancy laws to reduce the pressure caused by advance rent payments, which have made housing difficult for many Nigerians.
On education, the AAC candidate promised to remove financial barriers that prevent children from poor families from accessing education. He said his administration would make education free and available to Nigerians at all levels.
Sowore further linked reliable electricity to economic growth, saying his government would pursue uninterrupted power supply to reduce the dependence of businesses and industries on generators.
He described the AAC’s broader programme as one focused on justice and equal rights, arguing that Nigeria has enough resources to provide better living conditions for its citizens.
The promises form part of Sowore’s campaign agenda as political parties and presidential hopefuls prepare for the 2027 general election.
