Senate Confirms Bernard Doro As Minister

The Senate has confirmed Dr. Bernard Doro as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after a brief screening session that lasted less than 30 minutes.

Doro, who becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State under the current administration, used the opportunity to share his plans for building an inclusive humanitarian system across the country. He said his focus would be on creating a humanitarian structure driven by fairness, independence, and inclusiveness.

During the session, senators commended his qualifications and experience, expressing confidence in his ability to perform effectively in the federal cabinet. The lawmakers unanimously asked him to take a bow and leave, completing the confirmation process.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier written to the Senate requesting Doro’s screening and confirmation as minister in accordance with Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended. The letter, read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, urged lawmakers to give the nomination prompt attention.

Akpabio then referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for consideration, leading to Doro’s swift confirmation during plenary.

Doro’s appointment followed the recent selection of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July.

With his confirmation, Doro is expected to join President Tinubu’s cabinet in the coming days.
