SDP Expels National Chairman Gabam And Others Over Misconduct

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled its former National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, National Youth Leader, Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, and several other officials over allegations of misconduct, financial misappropriation, and abuse of office.

The decision was announced on Thursday in Abuja after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). According to the party, the expulsion followed months of investigation and disciplinary proceedings.

National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, said the move came after the NWC adopted the report of the Disciplinary Committee and a White Paper reviewing findings on the allegations against the affected officers.

He explained that Gabam, Uchechukwu, and the National Auditor, Mr. Clarkson Nnadi, were earlier suspended on June 24, 2025, over a prima facie case of financial impropriety and abuse of office. To ensure fairness, the party set up an independent Disciplinary Committee on July 4, 2025, which investigated the matter and submitted its report two weeks later.

Following the review of the report, the NWC adopted the White Paper on August 15, 2025, leading to Thursday’s expulsion of the officials.

Those affected include Gabam and Uchechukwu, who were dismissed and expelled, and Nnadi, who resigned from his position. Eight other members were also expelled for alleged disloyalty and unlawful entry into the party’s national secretariat in July, where they were reportedly caught with sensitive documents and valuables.

Aiyenigba said the expulsions were necessary to restore integrity, discipline, and order in the party, noting that the decision takes immediate effect.

The NWC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to the party’s constitution in managing its affairs.
