The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Cross River State has suspended its national vice chairman for the South South region, Usani Uguru Usani, over alleged anti-party activities and insubordination.

Usani, who served as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs between 2015 and 2019, was suspended following a meeting of the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) held on October 15. The decision was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the state publicity secretary, James Otudor.

According to the statement, the committee reviewed petitions and reports from stakeholders before concluding that Usani’s recent actions breached the party’s constitution and threatened its unity and image. The suspension, Otudor said, takes immediate effect pending a full investigation by the appropriate disciplinary organs of the party.

The committee also criticised the appointment of Jackie Wayas as deputy national publicity secretary, claiming the state chapter was not consulted before her selection. It added that Wayas had shown attitudes that did not support the party’s unity or growth in Cross River, calling for her replacement with a more committed and competent representative.
On membership and loyalty, the ADC leadership expressed concern that some coalition members who had publicly declared their intention to join the party were yet to complete their registration. The committee directed such individuals to finalise their membership at the ward level within seven days or risk being excluded from leadership and decision-making processes.
The statement reaffirmed the chapter’s loyalty to the party’s national leadership and restated its commitment to internal discipline, justice, and accountability. It also urged members to remain calm and united while the disciplinary procedures take their course.
Otudor concluded that the party in Cross River remains focused on building a credible platform that reflects the ideals of transparency, progress, and people-centred governance across the South South region.
