Minister’s Aide Accuses UNN Of Political Bias In Certificate Forgery Scandal

The spokesperson for the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has accused the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), of politicising the controversy surrounding the minister’s academic certificate.

Robert Ngwu, who spoke on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Tuesday, alleged that the university management was tampering with the minister’s records and manipulating his files. His comments followed reports that the university disowned the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) certificate submitted by Nnaji to the Senate during his ministerial screening in 2023.

Ngwu claimed that the ongoing dispute was politically motivated and linked to internal politics in Enugu State. He alleged that key figures in the university’s administration were aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that this influence was being used to damage the minister’s reputation.

He further alleged that the acting Vice Chancellor of the university was a PDP member and questioned the credibility of the leadership overseeing the matter. According to him, the situation reflects a broader pattern of political control in the state, where opposition voices face attempts to discredit them ahead of elections.

Ngwu insisted that the minister’s academic records remain valid and urged the university authorities to release Nnaji’s transcript without interference. He maintained that the controversy was part of a deliberate political effort to undermine the minister’s standing rather than a genuine investigation into academic integrity.

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has yet to issue a new response to the latest allegations. The matter continues to draw public attention as both parties trade accusations over the authenticity of the minister’s credentials.
