Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered the release of 36 inmates from correctional facilities in Ilesa and Ile-Ife as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.

The decision was announced in a proclamation dated September 24, 2025, following recommendations from the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy. The governor exercised his constitutional powers under Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution to grant the amnesty.

Out of the total, 29 inmates were released from Ilesa Correctional Centre, while seven were freed from Ile-Ife Correctional Centre. The list included names such as Kehinde Ganiyu, Isiaka Mohammed, Oluwatosin Femi, Adebisi Adeniyi, Rotimi Paul, Oyewole Sunday, Yusuf Ola, Oyedeji Sunday, and Ojo Olaoluwa.
Adeleke said the gesture reflects compassion and renewal, adding that the government remains committed to justice while giving deserving citizens a chance for rehabilitation and reintegration. He described the amnesty as both an act of mercy and an opportunity for the freed individuals to begin afresh.
