The Anambra State Government has rejected claims circulating on social media that linked the wife of the governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, to a N38 million contract scandal at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.
In a statement issued on Monday in Awka by the governor’s media aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, the government described the allegations as false and a calculated attempt to smear the image of the First Lady.
The statement clarified that Anambra State does not operate an official Office of the First Lady and has not appointed anyone to serve in such a capacity. It also noted that Mrs Soludo has no role in government contracts and was never involved in any project at the university.
It further explained that the name of Mrs Chinwe Umerie, mentioned in the reports, has no link to Mrs Soludo either in personal or official terms. The government stressed that the awarding of honorary degrees at the institution is solely the responsibility of the university’s Senate and Governing Council.
Officials described the report as politically motivated and urged the public to disregard it, insisting that the First Lady remains committed to her role as a promoter of social values and community development in the state.
