Governor Seyi Makinde on Saturday led 4,050 delegates to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congress in Oyo State, where a new executive council is being elected ahead of the party’s national convention in November.
The event is taking place at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, with the accreditation of delegates coordinated by the Electoral Committee chaired by Senator Austin Akobundu. Officials confirmed that the process began with delegates from Ibadan Southwest Local Government.
Security agencies, including the Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other operatives, are stationed around the venue to ensure peace and order throughout the exercise.
The chairman of the electoral committee described the turnout as an indication of the party’s strong presence and acceptance in Oyo State. He pledged that the exercise would be transparent and credible to reflect the will of members.
The outcome of the congress is expected to shape the party’s preparations ahead of its November convention in Ibadan.
