The Gombe State government has warned that parents and guardians who fail to enroll their children in school will face prosecution and possible jail terms.

Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Babaji Babadidi, issued the warning on Monday during the launch of the 2025/2026 school enrollment campaign in Amada, Akko Local Government Area. He said defaulting parents could face fines or up to two months imprisonment under Section 19(2) of the SUBEB Amendment Law 2021.

Babadidi explained that while the state had adopted a carrot approach by providing free education, it would enforce the law if the target of enrolling 400,000 new pupils this session is not met.
