Peter Obi Says Nigerians Will Not Accept Insecurity As Destiny

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned the rising wave of insecurity, warning that Nigerians must not resign to living in fear.

Reacting on his verified X handle, Obi described the worsening violence as a “dangerous normalisation of tragedy” after reports of 55 people abducted in Zamfara just days after news of a peace deal in Katsina.

He said the contradiction reflects the grim reality of a country where abductions, killings, and violent attacks have become routine.

“We are now in a situation where abductions, killings and violent attacks occur almost daily. Behind every number are families torn apart, dreams cut short and futures stolen,” Obi wrote.

The former Anambra governor lamented that Nigeria cannot grow or prosper while citizens live in perpetual fear. He faulted what he called the government’s silence and inaction, warning that such a response devalues the lives of Nigerians.

“The first duty of leadership is to protect life. Until we place the highest premium on the safety of every Nigerian, we cannot claim to be building a nation,” he stated.

Obi called for urgent prioritisation of security, insisting that Nigerians deserve a country where peace is the standard, not an option.

“Nigerians will not accept insecurity as their destiny,” he said.
