The All Progressives Congress has moved the inauguration of its National Campaign Council for the Anambra State governorship election to a yet-to-be-announced date.

The event, originally scheduled to hold on September 11 at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, was put on hold on Thursday following a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka. He assured party members that the change would not affect preparations ahead of the November 8 poll.

Anambra has proven to be a difficult ground for the APC, with APGA holding power since 2006. In the last governorship race in 2021, the APC candidate, Andy Uba, finished third behind APGA’s Charles Soludo and PDP’s Valentine Ozigbo. The result once again reflected the party’s long struggle to gain acceptance in the South-East.
Despite this history, the APC has continued to strengthen its network in the state, relying on federal influence and local partnerships to boost its chances. The November election is therefore seen as a major test of its ability to break into a region where it has repeatedly fallen short.
