Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has dismissed claims that he is a political mentee of his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, insisting instead that his political journey was shaped by President Bola Tinubu and the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi.
El-Rufai had, during a recent television appearance, described Sani as one of the many people he mentored, expressing pride in helping to elevate others in politics and public life.
Responding in an interview with TVC on Sunday, Governor Sani declined to be drawn into a personal exchange. He said his priority is delivering on his mandate in Kaduna and not engaging in political back-and-forth.
He explained that his political inspiration came from his long-standing association with Tinubu, whom he met in 1994, and from his close ties with Fawehinmi, under whose roof he once lived during the pro-democracy struggles of the 1990s.
Sani stressed that his administration will not be distracted by individual comments or political labels, noting that his focus remains on governance and improving the lives of people in Kaduna State.
Uba Sani previously served as El-Rufai’s political adviser between 2015 and 2019, before moving on to represent Kaduna Central in the Senate with El-Rufai’s support.
