Factional Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano, Senator Jibrin Doguwa, has dismissed the reported expulsion of Abdulmumin Jibrin, describing it as illegal and lacking legitimacy.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday PUNCH on Friday, Doguwa insisted that the decision announced by the Kwankwasiyya-led faction of the party held no weight. Earlier, Hashim Dungurawa, chairman of the Kwankwasiyya faction loyal to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had accused Jibrin of anti-party activities and defaulting on dues before declaring his expulsion.

But Doguwa maintained that the action was null and void. “I am the legitimate chairman of the party. This decision was made without our consent, so it has no effect,” he said.

He also defended Jibrin’s recent television remarks, insisting they were not anti-party. “What Kofa said was not anti-party. Every politician has the right to move from one platform to another. Even President Bola Tinubu changed parties before becoming who he is today,” Doguwa stated.
The factional chairman accused Dungurawa of overstepping his powers and threatened legal action if expulsions of party members continued. “If Dungurawa does not stop this illegality, we will meet him in court,” he warned.
The crisis deepens the internal division within the NNPP, which has been locked in a leadership tussle since the 2023 elections.
Jibrin, a former APC lawmaker and Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups, defected to the NNPP in 2022 under the Kwankwasiyya movement. His recent hints at leaving the party have further fueled speculation about his political future.
