Dangote Extends Scholarship To Oworo Communities In Kogi

Dangote Cement Plc has expanded its scholarship programme to cover communities in the Oworo District of Kogi State, offering educational support beyond its immediate host areas.

At the award ceremony held in Obajana on Monday, the Plant Director, Azad Nawabuddin, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to improving the welfare of the Oworo people. He explained that although the communities are outside the cement plant’s core catchment areas, Dangote decided to include them in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.

In addition to the scholarships, Nawabuddin announced that the company is providing five boreholes across different Oworo communities. He assured that Dangote Cement will sustain its CSR programmes across the district.

The company’s General Manager of Social Performance, Ademola Adeyemi, revealed that 50 students were selected for the 2025/26 academic session, with 26 females and 24 males benefiting. He added that beneficiaries would continue to receive support until they complete their studies, provided they maintain strong academic performance.

Community leaders and stakeholders at the event praised the initiative. The President of the Oworo Development Association, Alhaji Jibril Odoga Ibrahim, described the programme as a “dream come true” and urged the beneficiaries to work hard and make their communities proud.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, represented by Acting Permanent Secretary Omolayo Bilkisu, commended Dangote Cement for supporting education in the state through public-private partnership.

Traditional rulers, including the Olu of Apata, Oba Federick Balogun, and the Obaro of Ogbagon, Oba Ahmodu Umar Adoga, also lauded the gesture, describing education as the strongest foundation for development.

Other stakeholders, including Honourable Victoria Temitope, encouraged the students to take the opportunity seriously and work towards becoming future professionals who will contribute to the growth of their communities.
