The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has given the Federal Government a 21-day ultimatum to address lingering issues affecting its members and the polytechnic education system or face a nationwide strike.

The ultimatum followed the union’s 77th General Executive Council meeting, which took place at the Audu Bako College of Agriculture in Danbatta, Kano State, between August 26 and 28, 2025.

In its communiqué, the union accused the government of neglecting the polytechnic sector and failing to honour previous agreements. It expressed frustration that despite repeated appeals, promises made to staff and the wider education system remain unfulfilled.

The association listed outstanding issues, including the release of new schemes and conditions of service, the establishment of a renegotiation committee for the 2010 agreement, and the release of NEEDS Assessment funds for 2023, 2024, and 2025.
It also demanded the payment of accumulated arrears covering promotions, the 25/35 percent salary review, wage awards, and the full implementation of the new minimum wage.
SSANIP maintained that the government’s failure to act has deepened discontent among staff and weakened the education sector. It warned that if urgent steps are not taken within the stipulated 21 days, members across polytechnics in Nigeria will be compelled to withdraw their services.
