The Ebonyi State Government has approved an increase in the minimum wage for civil servants, raising it from seventy thousand naira to ninety thousand naira.

The decision was taken during the State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday.

The new wage takes immediate effect and applies to all categories of the state’s workforce. Government officials explained that the move was aimed at improving the welfare of workers, stressing that the administration had consistently shown commitment to staff and retirees.

As part of its welfare programmes, the government confirmed that it had cleared pension and gratuity payments owed to state retirees since the creation of Ebonyi in 1996. A verification exercise for retirees in the local government areas is currently ongoing, and payments will be made once the process is completed.
At the same meeting, the Executive Council also approved the enforcement of the eight-year tenure limit for directors and permanent secretaries. Those who have reached the limit in their current positions will proceed on retirement, in line with the policy.
The wage increase and other measures, the government noted, form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the civil service and ensure that the needs of both active workers and retirees are addressed.
