Adebayo Faults Tinubu Brazil Trip Calling It A Waste Of Resources

Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Prince Adewale Adebayo, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s recent trip to Brazil, calling it a waste of Nigeria’s scarce resources.

Adebayo argued that the President travelled in search of ideas already outlined in the manifesto of the SDP. He maintained that the policies that lifted millions out of poverty in Brazil are in sharp contrast to those currently implemented in Nigeria.

He pointed to Brazil’s Bolsa Familia programme, which drastically reduced poverty under former President Lula da Silva, as an example of how well-planned social welfare policies can transform lives. In his view, the Nigerian government has instead pursued measures that have deepened economic hardship, particularly through the removal of fuel subsidies.

He also compared the management of Brazil’s state oil company, Petrobras, with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, noting that the approaches are worlds apart. According to him, the Brazilian model shows how leadership and sound policies can drive progress, unlike the situation in Nigeria.

While describing the trip as unnecessary spending, Adebayo said the President could have drawn from Nigeria’s own political history, noting that Tinubu was once a member of the SDP. He insisted that the solutions Tinubu sought abroad are already available at home, if only the government would adopt them.
