ADC Crisis Deepens As Nafiu Bala Rejects David Mark Leadership

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is facing intensified internal turmoil as former Deputy National Chairman Nafiu Bala has rejected the leadership of Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, insisting that he is the legitimate party chairman.

Bala’s assertion comes months after the party, under the Ralph Nwosu-led National Working Committee, handed over the national secretariat to Mark as National Chairman and Aregbesola as National Secretary during a high-profile event in July. Despite this, Bala told journalists in Abuja on Wednesday that he was unaware of the handover and questioned its validity.

Citing the party constitution, Bala claimed that he is empowered to assume the role of chairman whenever the National Chairman resigns or is absent. He declared that he has now resumed leadership, describing himself as the authentic head of the ADC.

The disagreement underscores growing tensions within the party as it prepares to unveil a new venue for its adoption as part of the opposition coalition. Bala’s stance signals a continuing struggle for control, raising questions about the unity and direction of the ADC ahead of upcoming political activities.

Party members and observers now await how the conflicting claims will be resolved, as the leadership crisis threatens to overshadow the ADC’s political plans and public image.
