The Kogi State Government has announced the death of Professor Olu Akerejola, a respected educationist, community leader, and former Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).

He was from Ogori in Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area and passed away on Monday night at the age of over 80.

The government described his passing as a major loss to the state and the nation. The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, said the government shares in the grief of the Akerejola family, the Ogori/Magongo community, and all Kogites. He noted that the late professor’s contributions to education and development remain a legacy that future generations will remember.
Family members also confirmed his death. His younger brother, Demiloye Akerejola, speaking on behalf of the royal dynasty, said the community has lost a pillar of wisdom and leadership.
Funeral details are yet to be announced, but tributes continue to pour in for the late professor whose impact reached far beyond his immediate community.
