FG Inaugurate 80 Bed Hospital In Delta State

The Federal Government has inaugurated a new 80-bed specialist hospital in the Ugbuwangue community of Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State.

The facility dedicated to maternal and child healthcare, is part of President Bola Tinubu’s healthcare agenda and was built through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals.

The hospital was handed over to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, which will manage its operations. It comes fully equipped with wards for women, children, and newborns, as well as an intensive care unit, modern theatre, emergency unit, laboratory, staff accommodation, and backup power. Officials said the facility is designed to tackle maternal and child mortality in the state and improve access to quality healthcare.

At the inauguration, the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, welcomed the project as a development that will bring relief to families in the community. He urged residents to protect the hospital and ensure free access for patients at all times. He also noted that Delta people are still looking forward to more federal projects to support growth in the region.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori said the hospital will serve Warri and surrounding areas, describing it as an investment in the future of the state. He assured that the government will maintain the facility and integrate it into the state’s healthcare system to provide the needed services.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Isaac Agbateyiniro, expressed confidence that the hospital will reduce high maternal and child mortality rates in the area. He said the project has turned the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda into a reality for residents of Warri.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, explained that the hospital is one of several constructed across Nigeria to advance Goal 3 of the Sustainable Development Goals, which focuses on good health and well-being. She said the facility represents the federal government’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and sustainable development.

The Acting Medical Director of FMC Asaba, Dr. Ekeneam Omo, said the hospital stands as proof of government’s drive to achieve universal health coverage. He assured that patients will receive quality care and appealed for more land and resources to expand diagnostic services and acquire equipment such as digital X-ray and CT scan machines.

The hospital is expected to provide critical healthcare services to thousands of residents, bringing Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda closer to the grassroots in Delta State.
