Police in Niger State have arrested an 18-year-old student, Moses Amarks, for allegedly faking his own abduction to extort ₦50 million from his parents.

Amarks, a student of the College of Health in Kwamba, Suleja, was said to have conspired with friends to stage the fake kidnapping. According to police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun, the incident was reported on August 4, 2025, after the suspect’s mother received a call claiming her son had been abducted and demanding ransom.

Police tracked Amarks to Zuba motor park in Abuja, where he was arrested. During interrogation, he confessed to plotting the scheme with his friend, Emmanuel Moses, a 22-year-old former student of the same school. Emmanuel allegedly contacted his brother, Jetro, in Kaduna, who provided them a hideout in Karji village, Sabon-Tasha, where they stayed for six days.

The suspect reportedly decided to return home after the ransom was not paid. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest Jetro, while the investigation continues.
