Middle Belt Backs Peter Obi One Term Pledge As Obidient Movement Rallies

The Middle Belt Forum has declared its trust in Peter Obi’s pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027.

The group’s leadership said Obi’s track record shows he keeps his word, and they see no reason to doubt his commitment. They stressed that their support is based on his personal integrity rather than political pressure or sectional interests.

The assurance came after Obi restated his intention to lead for just four years if given the mandate. According to the forum, the promise is not a political gimmick but a genuine commitment. They noted that while the constitution and voters ultimately decide how long a leader stays in office, they believe Obi would honour his word.

As political activities build up, the Obidient Movement is gaining ground in Ibadan. Supporters gathered for the Oyo State Obidient Conference, themed “Going Forward 2027: A New Nigeria is Possible,” drawing party loyalists, analysts, and grassroots organisers from across the state.

At the event, University of Ibadan professor Francis Egbokhare delivered a stark assessment of Nigeria’s challenges, describing the country as full of talent but held back by poor governance, wasteful spending, and reliance on propaganda. He urged a change in mindset, warning that winning elections without deeper reforms would only repeat past failures.

Egbokhare called for integrity in leadership, encouragement of diverse opinions, and a clear strategy to tackle issues like insecurity and corruption. He said good intentions must be matched with disciplined planning and execution if Nigeria is to progress.

National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr Tanko Yunusa, dismissed rumours of Obi leaving the Labour Party. He confirmed Obi’s commitment to the 2027 race and his focus on a single, purposeful term aimed at human development and restoring public confidence. Yunusa said the movement’s mission went beyond elections, focusing on justice, fairness, and making government work for the people.

Oyo State Coordinator Ayo Akinyemi described the conference as a moment for members to unite behind a shared vision for change. He said Obi represents credible leadership and urged supporters to remain committed to transforming Nigeria’s political and economic landscape.
