Amaechi Says He Can Defeat Tinubu In 2027

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election if given the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket.

He made the statement during an online discussion on Saturday, expressing confidence that he has never contested directly against Tinubu but understands him well enough to win.

Amaechi said he knows both the strengths and weaknesses of the president and believes that with the ADC flag, he would prevail at the polls. He insisted that he has never been part of election rigging and has always declined invitations to serve on the All Progressives Congress (APC) election planning committees.

The former minister challenged any politician to present evidence that he had ever taken part in manipulating election results. He said he would only apologise if such proof surfaced. According to him, the political system often involves governors and government agencies in securing funds for elections, but he maintained he had stayed away from such practices.

He promised that if he emerged as the ADC candidate, he would expose questionable political dealings he had witnessed. Amaechi also pledged to ensure elections are conducted fairly and vowed never to take part in rigging.

Speaking on the 2023 general elections, Amaechi said the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, won in Rivers State, although the official results did not reflect that outcome. He claimed not to know how the results were altered.

While Amaechi is being linked to the 2027 presidential race, it remains uncertain whether the ADC will hand him its ticket to challenge President Tinubu.
