Adeleke Absence Sparks Political Tension In Osun

Governor Ademola Adeleke’s absence from Osun State has triggered a political face-off between the state government and the All Progressives Congress.

The governor, who has been away for more than two weeks, is currently in the United States attending the wedding of his nephew, popular musician Davido.

The APC raised concerns on Tuesday, accusing Adeleke of abandoning his duties without formally handing over power. The party questioned who was currently in charge of running the state and claimed that residents were quietly discussing the governor’s whereabouts in public spaces. According to the APC, Adeleke left the state without informing citizens, which they say raises issues about transparency and proper governance.

The party went further to claim that the governor’s absence followed an alleged failed attempt to defect to the APC. They demanded clarity on whether the governor handed over to his deputy as required by law. The party maintained that Osun people deserve to know where their leader is and who is acting on his behalf.

In response, the state government dismissed the APC’s claims and confirmed that the governor traveled to the United States to attend a family wedding. According to the governor’s spokesperson, Adeleke used a private jet for the trip and remains in full control of state matters from abroad. He assured citizens that the governor is in constant contact with his deputy, who is overseeing state affairs in his absence.

The spokesperson also noted that this is Adeleke’s first private trip since taking office in November 2022 and described it as a short visit. He even invited the opposition to join the family celebration either in person or online.

Despite these clarifications, the issue continues to stir controversy within Osun’s political space. While the government insists all is in order, the opposition believes the situation reveals deeper concerns about accountability and openness in governance.
