Olujimi Says Obi’s 2023 Message Won’t Shake Tinubu in 2027

Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Senator Biodun Olujimi, has said Peter Obi’s approach during the 2023 presidential election won’t be enough to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next election cycle.

She believes the energy and support Obi gained last time will not carry the same weight in 2027 unless he brings something entirely different to the table.

During an interview on a political programme aired Thursday, Olujimi pointed out that Tinubu’s long experience in Nigerian politics gives him a strong advantage. According to her, the president is not just a politician but someone who understands the system inside out and has built solid networks across all levels of government over the years.

Olujimi, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the All Progressives Congress, described Tinubu as someone who has played key roles in different governments and worked with many politicians, making him a tough opponent to beat in any election. She said trying to defeat him at the polls would be a serious challenge for anyone, including Obi.

Explaining her decision to join the ruling party, Olujimi said she was moved by what she sees as the boldness and direction of Tinubu’s leadership. She believes the current APC is different from what it was in the past, arguing that it now takes decisions firmly and follows through with them without bowing to pressure. This, she said, convinced her that the government is serious about change.

Although she acknowledged that her defection from the PDP might raise eyebrows, especially considering her long history with the party, she insists the PDP has lost its spark and no longer holds the confidence of the people. She said her decision was also in line with the wishes of her supporters at the grassroots, who were pleased she finally made the move.

Olujimi’s shift and her public remarks reflect growing debates around Nigeria’s next election, as key players begin to draw battle lines and set their sights on 2027.
