Dankwambo Urges PDP To Rebuild Before Thinking Of 2027 Elections

Former Gombe State governor and current senator, Ibrahim Dankwambo, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to put aside personal ambition and concentrate on rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

He made this known during an expanded PDP stakeholders meeting held on Sunday in Gombe.

Dankwambo told party faithful that now is not the time to talk about who will contest in 2027, but a time to strengthen the PDP’s structure and unity. According to him, the party must first regain its footing before any conversations about candidacy or positions can take place. He stressed the need for loyalty, discipline, and hard work to bring the party back to winning ways.

The meeting was attended by key PDP leaders from across the three senatorial zones of the state. While addressing the gathering, other speakers echoed the need for unity and inclusivity. They noted that internal crises had slowed the party down in recent years, but with recent efforts at reconciliation, there is hope for a fresh start.

A member of the House of Representatives from Billiri/Balanga, Ali Isa JC, said the PDP had resolved most of its internal challenges and had scheduled its national convention to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State. He also said the party is taking legal steps against defectors who won elections under the PDP but later dumped the party. He described the move as necessary to protect the mandate given to the party by voters.

Leaders from different zones used the occasion to demand fairness and balance in decision-making. From Gombe North, PDP Zonal Chairman Abubakar Bello called for every member to be carried along, saying the party will be stronger when local communities are fully involved. From the southern zone, former federal lawmaker Yusuf Manu-Swa thanked Dankwambo for his leadership and urged him to consider running for president in 2027. He also asked the PDP to zone the next governorship ticket to Gombe South.

From Gombe Central, party leader Danazumi Pindiga complained about the lack of PDP representation in both the state and national assemblies from his zone. He said this had created a gap in development and political influence. He also asked party leaders to punish those who worked against the PDP during past elections and to make empowerment opportunities more accessible to loyal members.

The meeting ended with a renewed call for unity, party discipline, and collective effort. Party leaders agreed that only a strong and united PDP could challenge the ruling party in the next general elections. Many also said that the time for ambition will come, but the task now is to rebuild, reconnect with the people, and prepare a solid foundation for future success.
