The Yobe State Government has dismissed claims that Governor Mai Mala Buni is planning to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the report as false and baseless.

The rumour gained attention on social media platforms and some online publications earlier this week. But the governor’s media team says there is no truth to the claim.

In a chat with journalists in Damaturu on Wednesday, Mamman Mohammed, Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, said the story had already been debunked in the past and was resurfacing without any fresh evidence.
He explained that the report appears to be politically motivated and has no connection to Governor Buni’s actions or political direction. He called it mere speculation with no facts to support it.

Mohammed insisted that Governor Buni remains firmly committed to the APC, having served as a two-term governor under its platform and also as a former National Secretary of the party.
He added that the governor’s loyalty to the party is unquestionable, and those pushing defection narratives are only trying to mislead the public.
The government also issued a warning to those spreading false information to exercise caution, especially when dealing with matters involving committed political figures like Governor Buni.
This response from the Yobe government appears aimed at shutting down the rumour before it gains traction in the political space, especially with the 2027 elections drawing closer.
