Kaduna PDP Denies Defection Rumours, Vows To Reclaim Lost Ground

The Peoples Democratic Party in Kaduna State has dismissed reports of mass defections within its ranks, insisting that the party remains united and committed ahead of crucial bye-elections in the state.

At an expanded caucus meeting held on Sunday at the ASAA Pyramid Hotel in Kaduna, party leaders from across the state reaffirmed their loyalty to the PDP’s leadership and vowed to support efforts to reposition the party for victory. The meeting was attended by lawmakers, local government party executives, youth and women leaders, and other stakeholders from the three senatorial districts.

In a communiqué signed by the state party chairman, Edward Percy Masha, the PDP stated that there is no truth to rumours suggesting that top members were planning to leave the party. Instead, the meeting expressed full support for the national leadership of the PDP, including the Board of Trustees and the PDP Governors’ Forum.

The party also backed plans for a national elective convention aimed at restructuring and strengthening the PDP for upcoming national and state elections. It further welcomed the possibility of forming alliances and strategic partnerships under the guidance of the new leadership expected to emerge from the convention.

The caucus resolved to focus on winning the three forthcoming bye-elections in Kaduna, pledging to close ranks and work collectively to reclaim power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to party insiders, discussions also centred on rebuilding grassroots networks to counter the APC’s dominance and what the PDP described as the ruling party’s failures in governance.

The meeting emphasized unity, discipline, and focus as the pillars that will drive the party’s resurgence in Kaduna. PDP leaders urged members to disregard any distractions or misinformation about internal crises, noting that all efforts are being channeled toward ensuring electoral victory.

As the political atmosphere in Kaduna intensifies ahead of the bye-elections, the PDP’s latest statement sends a clear message that it intends to stay in the fight and challenge the APC’s hold on the state. The coming weeks will reveal whether the party’s renewed resolve translates into success at the polls.
