Makinde Is Clueless, An Embarrassment To Oyo State – Alli Campaign

The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation has criticised Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, over his comments on the state’s increased revenue from the Federation Account and the persistence of hunger among residents.

The organisation, in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, accused the governor of failing to use the increased funds available to the state to adequately address the economic difficulties facing residents.

Makinde had spoken in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Monday, acknowledging that Oyo State had been receiving more money from the Federation Account but noting that the additional revenue had not translated into an end to hunger in the state.

Reacting on Tuesday, the campaign organisation linked the increase in allocations received by Oyo State to the economic reforms of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu.

The organisation questioned why the state government had not been able to use the additional funds to provide greater relief to residents if its monthly allocations had increased.

It argued that the responsibility for managing and applying state revenue rests with the state government and questioned why the governor would expect the Federal Government to take responsibility for tackling hunger in Oyo State.

The group also criticised Makinde over his position on local government administration in the state.

It alleged that the governor had opposed local government autonomy and had prevented the councils from operating independently, claiming that this allowed the state government to retain control over both state and local government funds.

The organisation described Makinde’s position on the issue as part of what it called poor governance in Oyo State over the past seven years.

It further argued that the governor’s comments about increased Federation Account receipts should prompt questions about how the funds had been utilised and the extent to which they had addressed the needs of residents.

The campaign organisation also turned its attention to the 2027 elections, saying it wanted voters in Oyo State to reject any attempt to extend what it described as Makinde’s style of administration beyond 2027.

It specifically referred to February 6, 2027, as the date when it expects voters to make their decision on the governor and the political candidate it said he intends to support.
