Several House of Assembly candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from Zamfara, Plateau, Taraba and Jigawa states have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defectors announced their move during a courtesy visit to the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.

Princess Aslam Aliyu Gambiyar from Zamfara State led the delegation.
She said the defectors had decided to leave the ADC because they believed President Bola Tinubu could advance the country’s development through the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration.
Gambiyar said the belief informed their decision to join the APC and support Tinubu’s bid for another term in office in 2027.
Receiving the politicians, Yilwatda welcomed them into the APC and acknowledged their decision to join the party.
The APC chairman urged the new members to return to their respective wards and begin organisational and grassroots activities.
He said their resignation from the ADC and decision to work with the APC showed their willingness to place what they consider national interests above individual political ambitions.

Yilwatda assured the defectors that the APC would provide opportunities for them to participate in party activities and contribute to the country’s political development.
He also said the APC and the Federal Government were committed to broad political participation and national cohesion across regional and religious lines.
According to him, Tinubu’s administration had pursued a governance approach that brought together Nigerians from different parts of the country.
Yilwatda said the defectors were now part of the APC political structure and that their contributions would be recognised.
He disclosed that their decision to join the party would be communicated to President Tinubu.
The APC chairman also said he would recommend the new members to governors in their respective states for possible involvement in mobilisation and grassroots activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
He urged them to return to their wards and communities and begin working with party structures.
Yilwatda said joining the APC should go beyond changing political affiliation, as the new members were expected to participate actively in building the party and supporting its programmes.
