Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying the measures being implemented by the Federal Government will eventually lead to improved economic conditions.

Okpebholo spoke on Thursday during the “Operation Rescue Benin-Asaba Road” event in Edo State, where he appealed to Nigerians to remain patient as the reforms continue.

The governor described the ongoing economic changes as difficult but said their benefits would become more apparent once the economy reaches what he called a stable or “cruising” level.
He used the process of an aircraft taking off to explain his position, noting that certain services become available only after the plane reaches a stable altitude.
Okpebholo also compared petrol prices in Nigeria with those in the United Kingdom, recounting that he recently visited London and checked the price of fuel there.
According to the governor, the price of petrol in the UK, after conversion to naira, was more than N3,000 per litre.

He used the comparison to argue that Nigerians were paying less for petrol than motorists in Britain and said the situation showed that the country was making progress under the current administration.
Okpebholo said Tinubu was working to stabilise the economy and pointed to ongoing road construction as another area of government intervention.
He cited the construction of concrete roads in different parts of the country as evidence of infrastructure development.
The governor also expressed support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, questioning whether the presidency was available for another occupant.
He referred to a recent statement attributed to the Oba of Benin that a working president should not be replaced.
Okpebholo said he believed the reforms would eventually improve conditions in the country and maintained that both Edo State and Nigeria were being properly managed.
