Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has denied reports that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 elections in Oyo State.

Adelabu made the clarification through a statement issued by his media office on Tuesday following the defection of his former media aide, Ajiboye Akande, from the APC to the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.

The former minister explained that Akande no longer works as his personal assistant and has no official or political relationship with him. He said their relationship ended after Akande chose to associate with another political party.

Adelabu also reaffirmed his membership of the APC, stating that he has no plan to defect from the party despite his disagreement with aspects of the process that produced the party’s candidate for the Oyo governorship election.
He said his concerns over the governorship nomination process should not be interpreted as an indication that he intends to leave the APC. According to him, his position is based on his call for transparency and legitimacy in the party’s internal processes.
The former minister further said he remained committed to the APC and President Bola Tinubu, whom he described as his political mentor and benefactor.
Adelabu contested the APC governorship primary in Oyo State but lost the party’s ticket. His clarification comes amid increased political activity and movement among politicians in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
