A United States-based political advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has accused President Bola Tinubu of attempting to manipulate Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

The firm made the allegation in a statement published on its verified X account on Saturday, claiming that the Tinubu administration was using state institutions to weaken opposition parties ahead of the election.

According to the firm, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary were allegedly being used to intimidate opposition politicians and restrict their ability to participate freely in the electoral process.
The organisation said it had raised the matter with officials in the administration of US President Donald Trump and members of the US Congress, alleging that the Nigerian president was actively working to influence the outcome of the 2027 election.
It further accused the administration of using law enforcement agencies, particularly the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), against political opponents.

The firm referred to an alleged 14-day ultimatum given to the EFCC by an individual linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to arrest former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is expected to be one of the opposition figures seeking the presidency in 2027.
It said the alleged development had raised concerns about the fairness of the electoral process and added that the United States was monitoring events surrounding Nigeria’s preparations for the election.
The lobbying firm said it planned to brief US officials and Congress on what it described as the latest attempt to use the EFCC for political purposes ahead of the poll.
It maintained that a free and credible election in Nigeria was in the interest of the United States and called for accountability for individuals or organisations found to be attempting to undermine the electoral process.
The allegations made by the US-based firm have not been independently established, and no evidence was provided in the statement to substantiate the claim that President Tinubu is planning to rig the 2027 presidential election.
