The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has alerted security agencies to an alleged plan by some Peoples Democratic Party-linked local government officials to take over council secretariats across the state.

The APC, through its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, alleged that the group planned to occupy the 30 local government secretariats and the Area Office on Thursday.

The party claimed that political supporters and suspected hoodlums from within and outside Osun State had been mobilised to assist in carrying out the planned takeover.
According to the APC, the alleged move followed the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15 governorship election, which it claimed had encouraged the purported PDP council executives to regroup and push ahead with their plans.
The opposition party also alleged that some officials of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees were involved in the plan and accused them of supporting the state government in the dispute over control of the local government councils.
The APC called on the Osun State Police Command, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to take preventive steps to stop any action that could lead to violence or a breakdown of law and order.

The party maintained that the dispute over the local government leadership was still before the courts and urged the affected council officials to allow the judicial process to continue instead of attempting to reclaim the secretariats through force.
The APC also referred to a Supreme Court judgment relating to one of the cases filed by the purported PDP council executives, claiming that the judgment raised questions about their legal status.
The party further recalled the death of Remi Abass, whom it identified as one of the reinstated APC council chairmen in Irewole Local Government Area. The APC alleged that Abass was killed by suspected supporters of the PDP and noted that some suspects were facing trial before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The party said the legal dispute involving the reinstated APC local government chairmen was still pending before the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State.
It therefore urged security agencies to closely monitor developments involving the disputed council executives and NULGE officials, particularly if there was any attempt to take over government facilities or cause unrest.
The APC warned that any attempt to bypass the courts and forcibly take control of the council secretariats could worsen the political tension in the state.
As of the time of the report, neither the Osun State Government nor the state chapter of the PDP had responded to the allegations.
