Video of Chief of Defence Staff Endorsing Politics Fake – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters has dismissed a viral video allegedly showing the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, making comments in support of partisan political interests.

In a statement released on Thursday, the military authorities said the video did not originate from the CDS and was created to falsely portray him as taking a political position.

The Defence Headquarters said the claims attributed to Oluyede in the footage were untrue and urged Nigerians not to rely on or circulate the content.

The military explained that the video appeared to have been created using artificial intelligence technology. According to the DHQ, the manipulation was intended to mislead the public, distort the position of the Chief of Defence Staff and damage the reputation of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The development comes amid increased political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the military restating its position that it must remain outside partisan politics.

The Defence Headquarters said the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains a professional and non-partisan institution whose duties are guided by the Constitution and centred on protecting the country.

The military authorities also condemned the production and circulation of the fabricated footage, warning those responsible for creating it and people who knowingly spread it to stop doing so.

The DHQ urged members of the public to verify information concerning the military through its recognised communication platforms rather than relying on unverified materials circulating on social media.

It listed its official platforms as Defence Headquarters Nigeria on Facebook, DHQNigeria on X, DefenceHQ on Instagram, Defence Headquarters Nigeria on WhatsApp and DefenceTV-Nigeria on YouTube.

The clarification is aimed at preventing the misleading video from being mistaken for an authentic statement by the Chief of Defence Staff and reinforcing the military’s position on political neutrality.
