Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has congratulated former Zamfara State Governor, Abdul’aziz Yari, on his appointment as Director-General of President Bola Tinubu’s Campaign Council.
Matawalle described Yari’s appointment as a welcome development and expressed confidence that he and other Zamfara political leaders appointed to the campaign structure would contribute to the success of the All Progressives Congress and Tinubu in the forthcoming elections.
The former Zamfara governor’s appointment was announced as part of the leadership structure being put in place for Tinubu’s campaign.
Yari, who currently represents Zamfara West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, previously served as governor of the state.
Matawalle’s political movement announced the congratulatory message in a statement issued in Gusau on Saturday by its Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris.
The group commended President Tinubu for selecting several prominent Zamfara indigenes for roles within the campaign organisation.

Matawalle himself was appointed Deputy Director of Security and Intelligence in the campaign structure, while the current Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal, was named a member of the Stakeholders Mobilisation Committee.
Two other former governors of the state, Ahmad Sani-Yerima and Mahmud Shinkafi, were also included in the campaign council.
The appointments have given Zamfara a strong presence in the campaign structure, with the former governors and other political figures expected to mobilise support for the President and the APC across the state and beyond.
Matawalle’s political movement congratulated Yari and the other appointees, while expressing confidence in their experience and political networks.
The group said the appointment of several Zamfara leaders would provide an opportunity for the state to play a major role in the campaign ahead of the elections.
It also expressed confidence that the appointees would work together to strengthen the APC’s campaign and mobilise voters in support of Tinubu.
Matawalle and Yari have both played major roles in Zamfara politics, having previously served as governors of the state. Their involvement in the campaign council is expected to bring their political experience and networks into the APC’s efforts ahead of the elections.
