Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has carried out a minor cabinet reshuffle, redeploying the suspended Commissioner for Livestock Development, Prof. Omorodion Ikponmwonsa, to the Ministry of Oil and Gas.
Ikponmwonsa was suspended by the governor on July 19, 2026, alongside the State Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, Ikpikhumi Betsy Aghaku, over what the government described as an official infraction.
The state government did not provide further details about the alleged infraction during the period of Ikponmwonsa’s suspension.
The latest changes were announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, who said the reshuffle was aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening governance and ensuring better service delivery across the state.
Two newly sworn-in commissioners were also assigned portfolios. Iriabekhai Kayode Jeffery was deployed to the Ministry of Mining, while Martin Anayochukwu Oli was assigned to the newly created Ministry of Inter-Ethnic Relations.
As part of the reshuffle, Commissioner for Communications, Ohimai Ehijimetor, was moved to the Ministry of Livestock Development.
Ikponmwonsa, who previously headed the Livestock Development Ministry, was redeployed to the Ministry of Oil and Gas, while Andrew Momodu, the former Commissioner for Oil and Gas, was moved to the Ministry of Communications.
The government said the changes were made to better match the responsibilities of commissioners with their skills, experience and areas of competence.
The newly established Ministry of Inter-Ethnic Relations is expected to promote peaceful relations between ethnic and community groups in Edo State and make use of the state’s cultural diversity to support development and unity.
All the new appointments and redeployments take effect immediately.
The affected commissioners were directed to ensure a smooth handover and promptly resume duties in their new ministries.
The governor also charged members of the State Executive Council to approach their assignments with renewed commitment and professionalism as his administration seeks to provide more effective and people-focused governance.
